One of the best ways to earn a passive income and monetize your blog is by supplying advertisements on your website, which you can do by working with ad networks. Bloggers can make anywhere from $0 to $100,000 (apparently) with ads. Realistically, most bloggers I know who are succeeding with ads make about $5,000 to $7,000 a month. The ones I know who are less successful usually make up for it in other revenue streams.

Remember: Advertising Revenue is one of many potential revenue streams to monetize your blog.
The best way to “make money blogging” as a business is to have multiple streams of revenue so that way, you don’t put all your eggs in a basket, or chickens, or some idiom. Advertising revenue is one of the many options to consider, and an easy one at that because you don’t have to fulfill orders and ship things. Passive income is good income.
In order to harness advertising, you can sign up for any one of these ad networks (or more than one), and I highly suggest utilizing all the tools and resources they provide to help you increase traffic and maximize earning potential.

Prep Your Site for Ad Networks
Not only do you want a site with a lot of highly sought content and high monthly page views, all set up, before hitting up ad networks with applications, you also want to make sure that your site is optimized for speed as ad networks tend to slow down a site. Ways to speed up your site include optimize images, go with a light theme and light plugins, reduce plugins to the essential ones you need, minify your CSS, and have amazing hosting.
In addition, to prep your site for ad networks, you will want to make sure you have all the legal requirements going including a cookie policy, an ad disclosure and policy, a privacy policy, and optional, a terms of use. Check out Mariam’s site for legal resources.
Advertising Works Once You Get the Eyeballs
Most bloggers say that they don’t make any money with ad networks UNTIL they have a lot of traffic, and certain places here won’t take you until you do. But the cool thing is you build content, figure out your niche, and by the time you are ready to monetize your blog by taking on a premium ad service, you’ll already have all the hard work done.
Google Ad Sense: This is probably where most bloggers start with advertising on their blog. But the seasoned bloggers tell you not to waste your time with it. But it’s the industry standard for starting out.
Top 3 Premium Ad Networks
These usually require a certain amount of traffic, but they have the least spammy ads and pay more per ad (often resulting in faster page speeds than the other options, in theory). Monetize your blog with your best foot forward and maximize earning potential by at least aiming to some day achieve the glory of one of these places.
Mediavine : The one most bloggers seem to be most eager to join, and requirements start with 25K sessions a month per Google Analytics.
Monumetric: Many bloggers say good things about this ad network, and minimum requirement to join is 10K monthly pageviews + fee… or without fee, 80K monthly page views.
Ad Thrive: I’ve heard bloggers swear they earn more here than they did with the other two, but these are also bloggers who started using more video because it made such a difference in their ad revenue. This one’s minimum requirement to join is 100K monthly pageviews.
Other Recommended Ad Networks
These have been known to have some buggy issues, but for the most part are recommended by many seasoned bloggers. They generally pay well enough to monetize your blog in ways that are worth it.
Gourmet Ads: Mainly for Food Blogs
There are more out there if you want to Google the subject. But really, you should hit one of these.
